A loudly defiant classic that teaches the timeless lesson of joy and hope in the face of fear.

The rock musical RENT first debuted on Broadway in 1996 and was an instant hit. To celebrate its 20th anniversary, the play is being revived for a special touring season, and luckily for us, it’s coming to Charlotte.

RENT was composed by Jonathan Larson, a Tony and Pulitzer Prize winning playwright. The play is loosely based on Puccini’s La Bohème Opera and follows a group of young artists as they try and make it big in New York City’s East Village. The plot is set against the background of poverty, homelessness, spunky gay life, drag queens and punk.

Showings run from September 26-October 1, and there are matinees and evening shows most days. Tickets are going fast so be sure to get yours now.

Students: you’re in luck. Blumenthal is hooking you up with $25 seats the day of the show.

For the rest of us, tickets start at around $30 – still a great price for an acclaimed Broadway show.
