A loudly defiant classic that teaches the timeless lesson of joy and hope in the face of fear.
The rock musical RENT first debuted on Broadway in 1996 and was an instant hit. To celebrate its 20th anniversary, the play is being revived for a special touring season, and luckily for us, it’s coming to Charlotte.
RENT was composed by Jonathan Larson, a Tony and Pulitzer Prize winning playwright. The play is loosely based on Puccini’s La Bohème Opera and follows a group of young artists as they try and make it big in New York City’s East Village. The plot is set against the background of poverty, homelessness, spunky gay life, drag queens and punk.
