If you didn’t know, poke bowls are the new sushi. This popular food trend combines marinated cubes of raw fish with a colorful palette of toppings.

Located near the Mellow Mushroom at 2820 Selwyn Avenue in Myers Park, Clean Catch Fish Market is now riding the poke-craze and offering a create-your-own poke bar every Thursday.

“We launched this as a sort of a ‘pop-up’ last Thursday and the poke bowls were a huge success,” Clean Catch owner Bill Ryan told the Agenda. “We’ll continue to tweak the offering to make the bowls better and better. Some customers yesterday did get smaller bowls for a snack and some got larger bowls for dinner.”

How does it work?

Step #1. Start with the catch: Yellowfin Tuna or Faroe Island Salmon.

Step #2. Select your sauce: Kalbi or Sambal Aioli.

Step #3. Select toppings: Avocado, cucumber, mango, scallion, red onion, radish, macadamia nut, heirloom cherry tomatoes, or fresh jalapeños. Voilà.

How much are we talking?

That’s on you. Poke is serving per pound, so customers can opt for a smaller snack or dinner sized proportion.

  • 1 lb Yellowfin Tuna – $35.99
  • 1 lb Faroe Island Salmon – $28.99

The average order is about 1/2 lb (includes toppings/sauce), so a Yellowfin Tuna Poke Bowl will run you about $18 per serving and a Faroe Island Salmon Poke Bowl will be about $15 per serving.

Is Thursday the only day?

Yep, but you can stock up on poke bowls for lunch and dinner. Clean Catch is open from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. Thursday.

And if you miss it, there’s always Lobster Roll Friday…
