New restaurants are popping up in Charlotte all the time. Now a company has moved into the city to help fill them with skilled chefs and servers.
Georgia-based recruiting company TalentServed has just expanded into the Charlotte area, appointing Kendra Martin to serve as the recruiting manager for the mid-Atlantic region.
Martin will be based out of Charlotte. TalentServed has 12 clients with locations in the Charlotte area so far.
Restaurants often experience a high employee turnover due to the nature of the industry, but it can also be tough finding the right fit for the company culture, Martin said.
With Charlotte growing as fast as it is, there are plenty of new restaurants cropping up across the Queen City. This creates a ton of competition among these restaurants to attract the best and most seasoned talent in the service industry.
Especially in the South, the company culture of many restaurants and hotels centers around the concept of Southern hospitality. Martin said that when she looks for job candidates here, she’s looking for shows of genuine kindness, a desire to be helpful, close attention to detail, and a tendency to go the extra mile to make someone’s day.
Will this fill a need for Charlotte restaurants?
Restaurateur Frank Scibelli, who operates brands including Yafo and Mama Ricotta’s, said he prefers to not just rely on an outside party to do his hiring, but he does use them. He now has an external recruiter sending him resumes, complementing an internal recruiter he hired for his restaurant group.
“It has gotten to be more and more difficult as the city continues to grow to find really strong employees,” Scibelli said. “We feel like we do a really good job of developing from within.”
