Topgolf will open its doors in south Charlotte next Friday, June 9 at 9 a.m. and we’re calling it: This place is Charlotte’s Next Big Thing.
The massive 65,000-square-foot facility comes complete with a full-service restaurant, 3-story driving range with a bar on each level, 102 climate-controlled bays and 3,000 feet of private event space.
It’s the company’s first North Carolina location, and it’ll be focused not just on showing the community a good time, but also giving back to it. High school teams and local organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters of America will play for free.
The microchip-centered technology may seem intimidating, but as a whole, the game is geared toward golfers of all levels (even those that aren’t golfers at all).
If you’ve never played, you’re not alone – 37% of players aren’t golfers.
It’s simple: Pick a game and a club, which you’ll wave over a sensor that will trigger the release of the ball. Set it up, aim and hit. That’s it.
The ball will do the rest for you, since each is equipped with a microchip that tracks distance and points for games that challenge different skill sets. Scores are kept in real-time.
Still a little doubtful of your skills? Learn from a pro at Topgolf U. One class is $29 while a package of five runs $125.
When it comes to snagging a bay for a game, it’s almost like bowling, but bays are rented by the hour rather than each individual game.
Once each player has purchased a $5 membership card, up to six people can play in one bay for anywhere from $25 to $45 an hour with unlimited balls. Here’s how the pricing works:
- Open to noon: $25 per hour
- Noon to 5 p.m: $35 per hour
- 5 p.m. to close: $45 per hour
3- and 6-month memberships are also available at $300 and $500, respectively, and will go on sale Monday, June 5. This is in addition to a $250 per month unlimited play membership, which includes unlimited priority access, lifetime memberships for each member’s guest and discounts on food and drink.
For those still not convinced they’re ready to step up to the tee, there’s plenty of other things to do – namely, eat at the space’s full-service restaurant and drink at any of the multiple bars while enjoying live music throughout the year.
The menu includes prime rib, shrimp cocktail, mushi and wings. Don’t sleep on the DIY injectable donut holes.
The drink menu is sizable and includes classics like an old fashioned, a Moscow mule, domestic and premium drafts, wine and spirits.
Signature cocktails include the Tipsy Palmer (Deep Eddy Sweet Tea Vodka, ABSOLUT Citron, iced tea and lemon) and the Don Julio Classic Margarita.
If none of that strikes you, at least you can rely on the 200+ HDTVs and free wi-fi.
Hours still have yet to be released, but will likely follow the pattern of other locations (9 a.m. to midnight on weekdays and as late as 2 a.m. on weekends). Keep up with the newest addition to the ever-expanding Topgolf family on their social feeds.
