The heat is no reason to slouch on style – here a few great summer looks from some well-dressed Charlotteans who know a thing or two about staying (and looking) cool.
Many of the pictures below feature women, but that doesn’t mean men can’t get in on the fun, too. We’ve provided some suggestions for how to recreate each look whether your style leans more masculine or feminine.
Alex looks great showing off a trend that’s been around for a while now – the maxi dress. She chose a strapless design, which keeps it looking casual and bares a little skin at the same time (just keep your sunscreen handy!). Floral patterns are ubiquitous in summer, but the stripes in the print give the dress a sporty vibe. Alex wisely chose to pair the dress with some muted accessories – a white handbag and simple woven sandals – which avoid making the outfit too busy and allow the dress to be the focal point.
Vivian’s outfit includes a couple of fun trends – athleisure and a sheer maxi skirt. If you’re not familiar with athleisure, it’s a style that’s been growing in popularity for a while now. Athletic or sporty clothes are worn as normal clothes for purposes other than exercising or playing sports. We love how Vivian is mixing the trends to create an unexpected combination: a sporty-looking shirt with a very girly, romantic skirt. Skirts with a sheer tulle or chiffon overlay are very popular right now. Adding to the fun of Vivian’s look are her round sunglasses and bandana headband.
Giovanni’s best accessory by far is Tomate the dog, but he also exudes summer cool with a tank top, jean shorts, and white Converse sneakers, which remain very popular for this time of year.
1 – ZeroUV sunglasses – $10 (or go local with Enemy to Fashion Positive Vibes Only sunglasses – $20) | 2 – Forever 21 tee – $11 | 3 – Enza Costa skirt – $79
4 – GUESS shorts – $70 | 5 – Converse sneakers – $50
For many people, summer is synonymous with hitting the links – but you don’t have to be a style conformist on the course. Golf pants with interesting patterns have been around for a while, but Dave’s pants manage to put their own twist on the form. We love the colorful, intricate print and how he has paired it with a black shirt and sandals so that the focus of the outfit is clear. Dave’s pants come from a line he created called Golf Slayer, which will have new merchandise available soon. Below we’ve linked to some fun printed pants that are available for purchase now if you want to up your golf (fashion) game, and a couple pairs that are suitable for any occasion.
Amy’s floppy hat is the perfect accessory for the summer. Not only is it functional because it provides shade from the intense summer rays, but it also adds a really summery touch to the outfit, especially when paired with a fun floral print dress like Amy has done. Amy’s outfit is perfect for summertime outdoor activities like picnics, festivals, or just hanging out at the park.
Cameron’s look is very chic and minimal. This is a great casual look for summertime, especially if you’re not into the more traditional sundress and sandals look. Black joggers, espadrilles, and a basic off-white top create a very relaxed and laidback outfit. Her light-wash chambray shirt really pulls the simple yet stylish look together. As far as accessories go, her round sunglasses and fringed boho bag represent the recent trends in accessories so they are perfect to pair with an outfit for the summer.
The kimono has been really big this year. It’s especially popular among festival-goers for its bohemian appeal. It’s a versatile piece that can be dressed up or down and can be styled with basically any other item of clothing. Kimonos are available in nearly any length, color, and print. Lyndsay keeps it simple with all black underneath so her printed kimono really stands out. Her long necklace and black loafers complete her laidback look.
