News capsule

Payzer is a growth stage software startup near Ballantyne that focuses on mobile and online payments, automatic payment plans and instant financing. Also, the company just closed a $4.25 million Series B round of equity capital.

Payzer’s mobile and cloud based platform, dubbed the All-in-One Financial Tool, allows customers to accept credit cards, debit cards and electronic checks in the field or at the home office with real-time tracking across their organization.

What you don’t know about the fast-growing FinTech company is that it’s the perfect spot for ambitious job hunters looking for an authentic growth experience in a professional startup environment.

Payzer

Why? It’s the happy medium between being stuck as a cog in a big business machine and wandering as an entrepreneur with no clear path forward. Payzer has funding, consistent growth and a company culture that values independence, innovation and hard work.

Payzer COO Chris Halligan explained, “There are a lot of people in Charlotte who want to gain professional experience in a real growth stage environment. Payzer is funded, we’ve worked out a great business model, and are in need of smart, hard working people who can help us execute and innovate as we hit the next levels. It’s a good time to be at Payzer.”

The company

Halligan told me that Payzer spent 2015 refining its go to market strategy and hit the growth lever last fall, adding several new technology, operations, and sales people.

The result? Payzer’s customer base has grown from 150 to 2,000 and the employee count has risen from 5 to 41 since January 1, 2015. Impressive.

The opportunity

Opportunity is the word that seemed to echo consistently in the Payzer office. From managers to new hires, everyone agreed that Payzer offered clear opportunities for growth and success with one magic ingredient: hard work.

Another common sentiment around the office: Payzer is the coolest Charlotte startup that you’ve never heard of.

Payzer

They’ve created an exceptional team, a compelling and widely applicable product, and the professional and growth opportunities (think raises, promotions, responsibility) that make a career exciting.

Alex Vidor, 27, has worked at Payzer for 15 months and has already had two raises and one promotion. He credits that to creating his own opportunities and, therefore, success.

“Payzer has been the perfect balance of learning and stability for me. Since I came on board, I’ve learned a ton,” said Vidor.

The culture

“Everyone is a contributor; there’s not a lot of hierarchy here,” said Halligan.

The people at Payzer are also just having fun. Note the tech team below, who dressed up as CTO Brad Pritchard (first on the left) just for the subtle hilarity of it.

“Our job isn’t just a series of change requests,” said Pritchard. “And culturally, we treat people like adults. It works.”
