Maybe I have a weird business brain, but I’ve always been curious as to how the bicycle delivery guys at Jimmy Johns are compensated. Here’s how it works.
First let me start off by saying that the bicycle delivery guys that I spoke with loved their job. That’s cool.
As an example, the Uptown Jimmy John’s location easily does a hundred deliveries on a good day. There’s a rotating crew of about 8-10 bikers at this location. The bikers look at the queue and then once there’s roughly 2-3 orders in the same direction, they grab the subs and hit the streets.
Here’s the compensation breakdown:
- On bike: $5/hr + $.50 mile (tracked by gps) + tips
- In store: At least minimum wage ($7.25/hr in North Carolina)
Side note: I became good friends with a few bike delivery guys by ordering Jimmy John’s online every day for about a 3 month stretch. It was intense.
