Pros

  • Full-body work out designed by a certified trainer specifically to burn body fat and build lean muscle mass
  • Monthly focus meetings for nutritional counseling and to track progress included in membership price
  • Multiple class times through out the day to fit almost any schedule
  • Free childcare
  • Strong sense of community and camaraderie among fellow members

Cons

  • Membership price may be high for some budgets. However, I personally find the membership rate more affordable than many other boutique fitness facilities in the area.

How to dress and what to bring

As far as attire, anything goes. You’ll see people in leggings and shorts, oversized t-shirts and tank tops alike. Wear supportive tennis shoes and bring a water bottle – you’ll need it!

What to expect in class

Each camp session is broken down into three sections. First is a 5-7 minute warm-up, followed by the actual workout itself. While the major muscle group being worked changes every day, you can typically expect high intensity intervals along with strength training. You’ll always end camp with a 3-5 minute finisher, which pushes you to your absolute max and completes your workout with a strong, high heart rate. Before you leave you’ll go through a quick 3-minute stretch of those sore muscles.

Where you’ll feel it the next day

This depends on what major muscle group you are working that day. Each week is a different mix of arms, legs, back, and athletic conditioning. You can also expect different formats (circuit training, partner workouts, 1000 rep challenges, etc.…) from day to day. You will never do the same workout twice, but trust me; you’ll always feel it the next day.

Locker room situation

The women’s restroom houses two stalls and one shower. There is also a wall of cubbies for storing keys, purses, water bottles and other personal belongings.

My take

I have to say, I’m a total Burn Bootcamp fan girl. There’s nothing else that would get me up every weekday at 5:00 a.m. but I love this special form of torture.

The focused attention that you get in each class is probably the biggest benefit in my eyes. Even with hundreds of members, trainers Kyle Lane and Lindsay Bushnell know every participant by name. During each camp, trainers dole out high fives, but aren’t afraid to call your name in encouragement if they see you slacking. If they catch you trying to fly under the radar with a light weight, they’ll bring you something more appropriate for your goals. It pushes me out of my comfort zone in the best way possible, and my body is responding accordingly.

Burn Bootcamp puts a strong focus on transformation stories. Typically, when I see before and after weight loss photos, I roll my eyes and assume it’s nothing but false advertising. That’s not the case here. To give a personal testimony, I’ll throw my own progress out there. Since starting at BBC, I’ve lost 8 pounds, 8 inches, and 4 percent body fat. Not too shabby!
