The announcement from Amos’ Southend last week is a tough one for a lot of people to take, maybe not because they’ve been there, but because they’re wondering which beloved venue will be next. Our city is changing, and it’s not all good. Fortunately, both Amos’ and Double Door Inn will be around through the end of this year, and there will be plenty of opportunities to check out two places loved by so many people. Go before it’s too late.

Times listed are when the show is scheduled to start, not when the doors are opened. Unless listed otherwise noted, prices are before taxes and fees.

Agenda Picks

  • 8/24: Gillian Welch, Neighborhood Theatre, 8 p.m., $30-$35 (tickets). Singer-songwriter Welch and Dave Rawlings have been nominated for several Grammy Awards. The two form one of the finer duos in modern Americana and bluegrass, excelling at painting a picture of the modern American South, both in words and in sounds.

  • 8/27: God Save The Queen City: Black Pistol Fire, Nikki Lane, Promised Land Sound, Serfs; The Fillmore, 7:30 p.m., $12.50 (tickets). The culmination of GSTQC 2016 is Black Pistol Fire, Eric Owen and Kevin McKeown’s raucous blues and rock and roll duo that brings more energy to the stage than most modern four- or five-piece rock outfits. This will be the last time they’ll be in Charlotte with a ticket price this low.
