A new indoor cycling studio is opening with a bang, offering 11 days of free community classes.
CycleBar, a Boston-based franchise with 33 studios across the country and another 50 on the way, will officially open its first Charlotte location on Monday, September 5 at Kings Square in Cherry. Ahead of the grand opening, they’re inviting people to ride for free.
Starting today, every class on CycleBar Midtown’s schedule is free through Sunday, September 4.
Classes are offered seven days a week with start times as early as 5:45 a.m. and as late as 7:10 p.m.
View the schedule here and sign up in advance before all the bikes are booked. As of yesterday, more than 20 classes were already full.
Of course, the following Monday you’ll have to pay up to keep participating.
Free classes are a pretty smart way to get people hooked before easing them into a paid model. CycleBar doesn’t offer memberships and instead sells classes in packages of 5 ($105) up to 100 ($1,600). A single drop-in class is $22. Comparatively, Flywheel’s single class pass is $25.
New CycleBar riders qualify for a special 3-class package for $39 or 10-class package for $169.
As for the workout…
It’s the ride we’ve come to expect from slick boutique cycle studio franchises—upbeat instructors, fast-paced moves, competitive stat tracking and clubby music.
Not to be one in a crowd, however, CycleBar adds a literal DJ booth to the studio where they host live DJs for themed classes.
I rode last week and loved it. The studio (albeit brand new and unopened) is spotless. The instructors (one who taught our class and two others who rode next to me) were super helpful, especially when I couldn’t get clipped into my bike myself. And the class flew by.
Before I knew it, we were in an all-out sprint to the end—stats displayed on a screen at the front of class to keep us motivated or discouraged depending on where you fell in the lineup, I suppose.
Me? I thought I worked my butt off and still landed middle of the pack, as average as they come. Guess I need to rack up those free classes this week to up my standing.
CycleBar is located at 339 S. Kings Drive.
