For as long as I have lived here I have craved somewhere to chill, somewhere to drink a nice cocktail with friends and not have to scream over each other or music, and most of all somewhere to relax and drink comfortably.

4 years later, I am still waiting, but I was delighted to find out that I may not have to wait much longer…

What Is It?

204 North is a restaurant & bar/lounge coming soon to the old boarded up spot in-between RiRa and Sip/Prohibition. The boards will be removed, as well as the old façade, and replaced by a beautiful glass exterior. Inside you will see a “free floating” staircase leading to the second floor and an incredible open floor plan on the first level catering both to eaters and drinkers.

It will take up all 3 levels of the building (basement being kitchen only, so ground floor and upstairs for patrons) and provide tons of space for Charlotte locals to come in and enjoy some fantastic food, drinks and service.

Why Do You Care?

If for nothing else, it seems this place will satisfy a need so many of us have in Uptown: A mid-range priced place that is both local and not a chain. They’re not a sports bar, they’re not a high end restaurant, and they are most definitely not a club.

This is going to be a place where you can come in shorts or come in a suit and be comfortable either way, and frankly, I couldn’t be more excited.

And you should join me in my excitement! For so long we let our Uptown bars and restaurants get away with a poor product: Covers, poor service, terribly made drinks, over priced items, dingy atmospheres… the list goes on. In speaking to the owner of this place, it seems like he recognizes everything Charlotte bars and restaurants do wrong and is going to make it all right.

The food will be farm-to-table with an ever-evolving food menu from a top notch chef. The cocktails will be made with in-house mixers, barrel-aged booze from an ever-evolving drink menu.

When Can You Use It?

The inside is already gutted and they are just waiting on permitting from the city to begin construction. They have an incredibly aggressive timeline and hope to open in late fall, early winter of this year!

The owner stressed to me that he wants to provide a consistently excellent experience and hopes this place will be something people can come back to years from now and know it will be the same great place.

This is just a tease for this incredible place. I will have more information and renderings of the interior in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
