Plans are in the very early stages for a new brewery on Griffith Street in South End.
It’s tentatively called “Hyde Brewery,” according to city government records, and will be right across the street from Triple C.
The building is a former receiving area for Furniture Connector.
It’s a small building — roughly 7,700 square feet, compared with 20,000 for Triple C’s building — but could add a ton of character to Charlotte’s beer scene.
A Furniture Connector representative was aware of a project there but did not have much information about the space.
This is a premium location — close to the New Bern station on the light rail, several large apartment communities (Fountains and Colonial Reserve) and the future development at the old Pepsi Bottling plant.
The land was successfully rezoned earlier this year by GriffBrew Investments LLC, which will give it a lot of flexibility. The owners didn’t reveal a ton during the public hearings, except that the business was “going to be oriented such that it fronts both Griffith and the light rail to encourage traffic to come from the light rail by foot or by
rail,” according to meeting minutes.
The people running the project aren’t ready to talk about any more details.
Stay tuned for more details. Work isn’t expected to be completed until late 2017.
