If you haven’t heard of Envision Charlotte, you’ve probably come across it in the lobby of an Uptown building.

One of the primary early goals was to achieve a 20 percent reduction in energy use Uptown. It’s since become a national model for cities.

They’re now taking the concept to the mobile device.

Envision Charlotte launched a mobile app — called Happen — this week that lets people complete “tasks” and “challenges” related to energy savings, like walking to work or making sure appliances are energy efficient. You sign up under the building you work in, and you can compete.

There’s going to be a launch event Wednesday.

At Tank’s Tap at 7th Street Public Market from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Free beer for the first 100 people who show they’ve downloaded the app.
