If you haven’t made a reservation at one of Charlotte’s 10 most romantic dinner spots or planned a starry-eyed day at a nearby picturesque vineyard or garden for Valentine’s Day, don’t panic.

There’s nothing wrong with looking forward to the pomp and circumstance of a sentimental day or night out, but it’s also okay to admit you’d rather celebrate quietly at home.

Valentine’s Day falls on a Sunday this year and the thought of booking a sitter for a school night and getting dressed up to go out after a full weekend of sports, playdates, errands, housework and birthday parties has me in hives.

All I want for Valentine’s Day is takeout. Oh, you’d like to make dinner for me instead? That’s sweet and cute, but no thanks.

Joe’s Doughs | Pure Pizza

Joe's Doughs Pure PIzza Special

Celebrate the night before with a great deal from Joe’s Doughs and Pure Pizza. Joe’s Doughs will be at Pure Pizza on Central Ave. on February 13 from 5 p.m. until close (or until they sell out of donuts) — grab a large one-topping pizza, a bottle of wine, and two donuts for under $30. This offer works for delivery, dine-in, or pick-up. If donuts are all you fancy, then you can just opt for those as well.

“Pure Pizza and ourselves at Joe’s Doughs wanted to offer this deal for couples that didn’t want to break the bank and fight the Valentine’s crowds but still can celebrate with a unique and fun dinner idea.” -Joe Pepe, Founder Joe’s Doughs

– Rose Marscapone
– White Chocolate Raspberry Pistachio

Earl’s Grocery

Earl’s is open until 3:30 on Sunday, so if you’re planning on taking out, head there early. You can select from their delectable prepared foods or impress your date by pulling together your own charcuterie and cheese board. Also, according to management, Earl’s pastry chefs will also be baking up some special Valentine’s Day concoctions for the desert case so be sure to give those a look as well.

Not all takeout foods travel well, especially those of the fried variety. Pasta generally travels well and with three locations around Charlotte, Portofino’s is a convenient and delicious option. According to Portofino’s General Manager, Pasta Primavera, Chicken Portofino, Veal Marsala, and Shrimp Fradiavolo are some of the most popular takeout items on their menus.

And don’t forget to throw in a slice of Tiramisu or Cannoli for desert.

The Cowfish

Cowfish Moriawase Double Deuce

Sushi is a romantic option that travels well, making it an excellent takeout choice. In addition to their usual sushi menu, Cowfish will be offering a special Pink Lady Roll (pink soypaper, cream cheese, cucumber, salmon). All dine-in and take-out guests at Cowfish on Valentine’s Day will also receive a carnation and chocolate covered fortune cookie.
