Ice Skating at the Whitewater Center: While the holidays may be over, ice skating at the Whitewater Center continues through mid-February. The skating area also has a skate-up bar where you can buy craft beer, hot chocolate, and coffee. Reservations are required. Skate rentals are included but you need to bring your own socks. Noon to 10 p.m. $20. Details.

Homemade Spanish Tapas online with SkillPop: Join Chef Rosana for a class dedicated to the art of preparing Spanish tapas. You’ll learn how to make Croquetas de Jamon (ham croquettes), Pan con Tomate (tomato bread), and Patatas Bravas (spicy aioli potatoes). 5:30-7 p.m. $24. Details.

Joe Gransden & Maria Howell: Together Again! at Middle C Jazz: Singer, voice artist, and actress Maria Howell joins trumpeter and vocalist Joe Gransden in a jazz reunion at Middle C Jazz club. Craft cocktails and small plates begin at 6 p.m. and patio seating is available first-come, first-served. 6 & 8 p.m. $36 club seating. Details.

Virtual Jazz at the Bechtler: Post-Holiday Blues with Ziad Jazz Quartet, online: Cure your post-holiday blues by tuning in to hear the Ziad Jazz Quartet play live from the Bechtler. 7 p.m. Free. Details.

The Mint Museum NexGen Virtual Art Party with Ken West, online: The Mint Museum hosts photographer Ken West for a discussion about how he uses empathy and mindfulness in his work. 24 Foundation’s 24,000 Mile Challenge – Big Steps for Small Heroes: Big Steps for Small Heroes is a challenge for the Charlotte community to collectively complete 24,000 miles in 24 hours to raise money and support pediatric cancer navigation and survivorship programs. Jan. 9-10,  7 a.m. to 7 a.m. Free. Winter Comfort Baking Boot Camp at Sweet Spot Studio: Learn how to make yeasted doughs and other bread-based pastries in this four-week baking boot camp. Classes will cover making sourdough starter, brioche bread, and cinnamon rolls among other things. Jan. 9, 16, 30 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Jan. 23, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Payment plans available.
