Oh, you thought I might stop talking about Halloween, the greatest holiday all year, because it’s November now? No.

GUTS, the pumpkin carving contest for Charlotte creatives, drew a huge crowd to the N.C. Music Factory on Friday for its seventh annual competition. Designers, developers, artists, architects, photographers and more repped their agencies (or themselves) in a 90-minute battle to create the most impressive pumpkin. Proceeds from the event benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Here’s a look at just some of what you missed…

The event, created by Crafted, was obviously a good time for participants but there was plenty for spectators to do, too. They had a photo booth, temporary tattoo station (I still can’t get mine off so the jury’s still out on “temporary” or on my ability to bathe) and a bar with plenty of adult beverages to loosen your grip on your wallet for the silent auction. To raise more money for Make-A-Wish, spectators could bid on the pumpkin carvings and take them home that night. (There was also a People’s Choice award to get everyone involved and Mood Visuals went home with that for their pumpkin burger.)

Obviously, I was a fan of the JAWS pumpkin even if it didn’t win.

There was some serious artistic talent on display here in a medium I assume most people don’t work in on the job. Although the competitors are classified as creatives, that translates into a whole lot of office and computer time for most professions these days so it was cool to see that talent unleashed out in the wild on something so lighthearted (and yet cutthroat) as pumpkin carving.

Just look at the aftermath.
