Although I am relatively new to the Charlotte car community, the one thing I have found is that a lot of groups and events are organized by word of mouth. Usually the same information someone tells me about is online, but it’s just not well shared and I’m hoping to change that.

Once I got out to the Charlotte Motorist Club’s weekly meet I was impressed by how big the community is and the amount of people that show up. Once you talk to the right people, the doors of the community open up and show how much Charlotte has to offer.

If you love cars like I do, two events this weekend — Tuner Evolution and CMC’s weekly meeting — will make for a great weekend of expensive cars and talks with people that have the same passion.

Tuner Evolution

The eight-hour event (details here) is coming to Charlotte at the Park Expo and Conference Center this Saturday and displays some of the cleanest modified import cars on the East Coast. There is a lot to do and see at the event including remote-controlled races, bikini model contest, vendors and even a break-dancing contest. The spectator parking also brings in some interesting cars even though they may not be showroom quality.

This is a great event to see some pristine examples of completely modified cars. If you’re tired of seeing someone’s “tuned” car around town with five different colors of paint and a fart can, then this event will definitely bring relief. It’s three bucks for parking and $20 to get in.

Charlotte Motorist Club

This is one of my favorite events in Charlotte and is held every Sunday night during regular school semesters at UNC Charlotte from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. On a good night, close to 100 cars come out to the meet and show off their latest improvement (which depends on the driver opinion whether it’s an improvement or not.)

Although the majority of people that attend are UNC Charlotte students, the weekly meet welcomes anyone. It’s a great time to talk to people who might have the same model of car and get advice on the best parts to make your ride even better. The only requirement is that you sign up online before arriving.
