A new brewery is under construction in a former BB&T Bank branch on Monroe Road because, hello, we live in Charlotte. Of course this is happening.
The brewery, which is located in the Echo Hills and Oakhurst neighborhoods near Bojangles Entertainment Complex, is called Vaulted Oak Brewing. (Vault, bank. Oak, Oakhurst. You get it.)
Founder Kiel Arrington hopes to open the brewery before year’s end.
“I can’t wait to bring more fun and positive energy to this part of town,” he says. “I live here and I really want to further help shape our community in a positive way that brings all the surrounding neighborhoods together for some great fellowship, great events and even greater beer.”

Vibe: The 4,000-square-foot brewery will repurpose certain old elements of the bank, including the vault door, pneumatic tubes, and the drive-up teller area, which will turn into a patio area with a walk-up window. It’ll have a rustic feel with elements of wood, brick, iron, and glass.
There’s also an additional outdoor space behind the brewery.
“The establishments that I have worked at in the past have all prided themselves on serving everyone, and I mean everyone, from CEOs to construction workers to musicians to artists and athletes,” Arrington says, “and I want to continue that in my ventures.”
Beer: Arrington, who has a background in the service industry, will focus on small-batch beers from an array of styles — such as sessionable blondes, lagers, west coast IPAs, sours, saisons, and porters. The brewery will also have a selection of wine and cider.
Non-alcoholic options: Vaulted Oak will also have kombucha and housemade non-alcoholic beverages.
Location: Vaulted Oak Brewing is located at 3726 Monroe Road. It plans to open in late 2020.
