QCity Metro is a news, business and culture platform with a predominately Black audience in Charlotte, N.C., and surrounding areas. QCity Metro promotes Black excellence, social connectedness and civic engagement, both online and through events. Founded in 2008, QCity Metro is one of the nation’s first digital-only news organizations founded to serve a local, Black audience.

Overview:
QCity Metro is hiring a Director of Sales who will work hand-in-hand with management to create and execute a revenue strategy sufficient to fund our growing newsroom. Our ideal candidate is an experienced sales executive with a passion for local journalism who can help lead our organization through a period of significant growth. You will enjoy wide latitude to create the structures necessary to build a diverse and sustainable revenue model. You must be nimble enough to create strategy and processes as well as execute day-to-day tasks. Reporting to the Publisher, you will play a central role in helping to shape the overall direction of our organization as part of the management team. The role may include hiring and managing a sales staff as we build out our revenue team.

Responsibilities:
• Identify revenue streams consistent with the best practices of 21st-Century media companies
• Work closely with Management to develop and direct the execution of the QCity Metro sales plan to achieve monthly and quarterly sales objectives
• Identify, develop and maintain relationships and close association with key decision makers in our community, for-profit and nonprofit organizations that may be looking to reach Charlotte’s growing population of Black residents
• Make targeted sales calls in line with the organization’s strategy
• Create revenue-generating events that are consistent with the needs and interests of our growing audience
• Develop and oversee a revenue strategy that grows our membership donations
• Develop and manage a strategy that will encourage small, Black-owned businesses to market their products and services on our website, qcitymetro.com
• Implement pricing strategies to increase sales while maintaining profitability.
• Attend industry conferences to keep pace with new strategies and best practices
• Manage a contractor who will help manage sales accounts
• Keep management team informed about any customer, industry, market trend or competitive activity that could impact our business
• Maintain a professional image and demeanor consistent with the image of QCity Metro
• Carry out all responsibilities in an honest, ethical and professional manner
• Exercise good judgment in the use of company funds to ensure profitability
• Comply with both the spirit and letter of applicable laws and regulations
• Maintain confidentiality of company data

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university preferred
• A keen understanding of new media and the revenue opportunities it presents
• 3-plus years of sales and/or marketing experience with demonstrated ability to lead and manage a priority project with proven business results and a documented history of successful execution and goal attainment
• Confidence to test new revenue strategies
• Ability to work creatively (at times independently) and thrive in a startup environment
• Excellent planning, organization, analytical and project management skills
• Must exhibit efficiency, candor, openness, and results orientation
• Must possess strong communication skills, both verbal and written
• Computer proficiency in Google Suite
