On Saturday night, 28-year-old fertility nurse Caroline Elliott ordered 100 pizzas from Inizio and her friends delivered them to local healthcare workers.
It’s part of a larger effort to place 30 orders at local restaurants over the next 30 days — and deliver meals to healthcare workers at local hospitals.
“Like many of us, I was not only feeling anxious, but also hopeless — what could I do to help?” Caroline told the Agenda. “I’m a nurse myself, although no longer at the bedside, so I have a special place in my heart for all of those at the frontline.”
It’s also a way to support local restaurants, a “win-win” as she describes it.
How to help: Caroline originally started to raise funds on her personal Venmo account, but after an overwhelming response, she launched a GoFundMe. So far, she’s raised $18,000 toward a goal of $30,000.
Orders have already been placed at Reid’s Fine Foods, Chef Alyssa’s Kitchen, Inizio, Laurel Market, Harper’s, Legion Brewing, Selwyn Pub, and more. They’ll be making more deliveries in the coming days and weeks.
“I’ve been taught to give back to the places and people that have influenced my life — being a nurse has shaped me as a person and I know on a personal level the anxiety that comes with working in a hospital on even just a normal day,” said Caroline. “They are heroes — all of them, doctors, nurses, techs, environmental staff, respiratory therapists, physician assistants, etc.”
