Visit North Carolina, the state’s official travel-planning destination, has launched a campaign to hire its first dog travel agent.

Finally, a career path for my dog Raisin.

The charming marketing stunt presented as an Instagram video contest will select one adventurous dog-human duo to showcase the best pup-friendly attractions throughout the state.

The winning pair will receive:

  • Travel stipend
  • Four trips to explore North Carolina mountains, beaches and parks
  • Go-Pro camera and harness
  • Regional fame

But you’ll also have to work for it. Final deliverables through June 30, 2020 include travel, media appearances, a minimum of eight posts (on Youtube, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest) and three 500-word blog posts documenting your adventures.

Unless your dog has these skills, the grunt work is yours while they get all the glory. Typical.

Applications are open through Sept. 15. Here’s how to get your dog in the running:

Create a one-minute video showcasing your dog’s adventures in North Carolina and post it to a public Instagram account  — tag #choosemydoggo and @VisitNC. After that, submit an official application with a link to your Instagram video.

So far the #choosemydoggo hashtag has been used about 250 times. Sorry, but it’s over for all of you once my dog enters the race. Good luck though.
