StretchLab, a highly customized stretching concept started in Venice Beach, is now open in SouthPark — and it’s off to a red-hot start.

Just two weeks after opening, StretchLab has nearly 300 members. Demand has completely exceeded the expectations of franchise owners Stacey and Steve Hitzemann, and they’re already well underway planning for additional locations.

A second StretchLab location will open in Dilworth’s Kenilworth Commons shopping center a few doors down from Foxcroft Wine Dilworth in August. Stacey and Steve’s goal is to have six StretchLab locations around Charlotte and they’re currently evaluating space in Davidson and Ballantyne.

Because so many people are new this type of stretching concept, StretchLab SouthPark is offering an introductory, full body 25-minute stretch for $29 (50 percent off) and 50 minutes for $49 (50 percent off), so that people can test it out. Given the popularity, I expect these specials may end soon.

Membership packages include four or eight stretches per month (25 or 50 minutes) and pricing for memberships starts at $149 per month for four 25-minute stretches. StretchLab also offers a 50-minute group stretch (capped at six participants) membership for $79, although one-on-one is by far their most popular offering.

How it works: A “Flexologist” will greet you, discuss your current flexibility and injuries and then give you a custom stretch on their designer benches. Then it’s  a one-on-one assisted stretch. The only weird part is that it all happens in the same room, but you’ll get over that quickly. Originally from Venice Beach, CA, their stretching methods are focused on maintaining a healthy, injury free and free-feeling body. Oh, and they’ll save notes on your injuries and flexibility so they can always give you a custom stretch.

Location and hours: StretchLab is located in SouthPark’s Strawberry Hill shopping center near the Fresh Market and upcoming Superica. The exact address is 4914 Old Sardis Road, C3. Hours (which may change) are from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. It’s smart to book an appointment beforehand, and they also require that you wear sticky socks to ensure traction — they sell them on site if you don’t own any.

Who can get the stretch: Everyone. The StretchLab is aimed to accommodate and assist people from all walks of life. Stacey says, “We can’t wait to get our hands on all people!”
