Pike’s Old Fashioned Soda Shop, an old-school diner that’s family friendly, will close its South End location within the next few weeks.

Although unconfirmed, sources close to the deal told the Agenda that Shake Shack will open in the space. No word yet on the Shake Shack timing, but it’ll be the burger chain’s third Charlotte location.

Pike’s lease expires on May 31, and owner Randy Chitwood told the Agenda they will not renew. That said, Pike’s will relocate to Myers Park — the exact location and grand opening plans will be announced this fall.

Pike’s has been a South End staple for exactly 20 years. “This area is changing,” Randy told me. He’s right. Superica, Jeni’s Ice Creams, Barcelona Wine Bar, Hawkers and Pepperbox Doughnuts have all recently opened in South End’s Design Center.

Expect Pike’s to close within the next few weeks (earlier than May 31) as they run through remaining inventory.
