This house is deceptive, in a good way. From the front, you’d expect the interior of this house to be traditional, but as soon as you step inside, you’re met with modern sophistication, pops of color and super sleek design.
The house, originally built in 1945, was recently redesigned by Australian architect Maria Gigney (Height Design + Build carried out the project). They made some upgrades within the original footprint, but they also created an incredibly modern addition, which now includes the kitchen, dining room and lounge space.
The exact address is 1825 Merriman Ave. in historic Wilmore (near South End). It’s 2,481 square feet and has four bedrooms and two full bathrooms.
The asking price is $625,000, and Pat Deely and Lana Laws at Savvy + Co. have the listing.
I love the way different materials were used to create texture and contrast in this design. It’s clean and simple, but also smart and intriguing.
You’ve got wide-plank oak flooring in some spaces and concrete in others. Even in the small office nook, you’ve got black walls that mirror the window frames and a light-colored wood desk that complements the flooring. The windows are tall and vertical and the desk and cabinets stretch long horizontally. It feels really cool and balanced without being totally symmetrical.
I recently binged Selling Sunset and this house, especially the addition, reminds me of those properties. Very California cool.
It’s the perfect spot for entertaining. It’s not overwhelmingly spacious but it’s open enough for people to lounge and dine casually. The wall of windows is also great — it brings in a ton of light and because the backyard is fenced in, it still feels private.
One of my favorite spots is the master bathroom — it’s not your average oasis.
I love the black honeycomb tile, the wall-mounted sinks and use of reclaimed wood. It’s nice to see something other than shiny marble or white subway tile.
Can’t stop obsessing? Me neither. Here are some more photos to satiate your curiosity.
