Edge City, a two-story taproom and brewery concept, will be opening this fall in MoRA — it’ll be the first in the immediate area.
And, like me, if you don’t know where that is, it’s Monroe Road in southeast Charlotte, between Independence Boulevard and Sardis Road. The exact address is 6209 Old Post Road.
Team: Brothers Jared Thomas (brewmaster) and John Thomas (operations) are the founders of Edge City, and “are passionate about (the) vibrant neighborhoods and beer scene.” Jared was head brewer at Ass Clown in Cornelius, and before that he was the head brewer at a start-up brewery in Colorado. And Mandii Green of Belles Creative is a partner and heading up marketing and advertising.
What they’re excited about: “We are most excited about joining the thriving Charlotte beer scene and be creative with our beer recipes,” the team told the Agenda. “We want to establish more of a collaborative approach to our brewery by partnering with other brewers, entrepreneurs and local vendors.”
Beer: Expect 12-14 beers on tap to start. The idea is to keep them rotating and include a good mix of traditional beers as well as some more experimental flavors.
Design: The team told us they’re inspired to bring the outdoors in, so expect lots of greenery and an organic feel. In terms of special designs and decor, they plan to bring in “creative installations and features.”
Layout: It’ll be two stories, with the second story being the brewhouse “where guests will be able to come check out the brewing action,” Mandii said. There will also be a spacious all-season and dog friendly patio and tons of outdoor green space.
Why it matters: The area is seeing a lot of revitalization, and this will be the first brewery in that immediate area.
