More than a dozen of Charlotte’s best-dressed women have cleaned out their wardrobes, and are hosting a huge “pre-loved” designer clothing sale at Quail Hallow called the EDIT this Tuesday through Friday.
From Ulla Johnson to Valentino, these Capitol- and Poole Shop-loving ladies (who didn’t want to be named) will be selling around 2,000 pieces combined (three times as much inventory as the fall sale).
“All of the shopaholics are catching on to what we’re doing,” one of the EDIT’s founder said. And because more people are getting involved, the range of designers and sizes continues to improve — and the quality is insane.
“We’re just people who love fashion. We kind of move on at the end of each season,” one of the event’s three founders told me. “But what we’re selling, it’s stuff that’s still beautiful. We want to pass it on to other people who love fashion. … We all end up buying stuff at the show, too.”
Most pieces have only been worn a handful of times and are three years old or newer. You won’t find anything with major wear or defects — it’s all clothing that’s in style and in great condition, some new with tags.
“We have people asking for this sale,” one woman told me. “Once we started it, people have loved it.”
History: Three women with seriously killer closets started the EDIT sale, because they wanted to make room in their closets for new pieces. They also knew the “pre-loved” clothing they were ready to depart with was still stylish and could be worn by someone else. The sale started by word of mouth, and this will be the sixth time they’ve done it. People literally line up for it, one of the women said.
How it works: The sale is at Quail Hollow — don’t worry, everyone’s invited to the sale, even if you’re not a club member. The women chose the location because the sale has gotten too big to have at someone’s private home. Quail has a huge parking lot and there will be plenty of space to try stuff on.
They take Venmo and cash for all purchases.
Location and hours: The sale is at Quail Hollow, 3700 Gleneagles Road, from March 3 to 6. They’re open 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday-Thursday; and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday. All of the inventory is so good this time that you don’t need to rush to be there day one.
Inventory: They have tons of dresses, tops, skirts, bags, and shoes — and plenty of items are unworn with tags.
Everything included in the sale is fit for spring and summer, and some pieces are great for the winter to spring transition, or summer to fall.
Designers/brands: Ulla Johnson, La DoubleJ, Love Shack Fancy, Golden Goose, Valentino, Gucci, Chloe, Isabel Marant, Marc Jacobs, Dries Van Noten, Balenciaga, and more.
Sizes: 0-12 clothing size, 6-11 shoe size
Discounts: I scoped out the inventory last week, and the discounts are steep. I tried on as many dresses as I could fit in my hands, and all were priced under $400, originally up to $1,500 full price. I found several dresses under $250, and some clutches tagged at $10.
Keep in mind, these items were originally purchased from incredibly high-end retailers — you’re getting a really good deal, but don’t expect TJ Maxx prices.
Check them out: Since so many women contribute to the sale, they started an Instagram to keep all the happenings in one spot.
