When Rachel Roff started at the National Aesthetics Institute, she was shocked by how few people of color she found among her teachers, fellow students and models.

Today, Roff runs a Charlotte med-spa called Urban Skin Solutions and an affiliated product line called Urban Skin Rx that aims to help fill in the gap.

Fueled by endorsements by people like Ayesha Curry and Remy Ma, Roff’s company is still growing incredibly fast — last year, it posted a 125% year over year revenue increase.

All that’s led Roff to be selected as a finalist for Charlotte Agenda’s Small Businessperson of the Year award in the Health and Beauty category.

Get to know Rachel and learn from her success through these five questions.

Getting my daughter ready for school, checking emails and drinking lots of coffee.

What’s a recent purchase of less than $100 that you love?

$1 Not Just Coffee sticker for the back of my car

What’s the best book you’ve read in the past year?

It’s not a book, but a podcast by the Wall Street journal called “Secrets of Wealthy Women.”

Katie Schindler, the owner of Fine Grit, a cabinetry refinishing company. She is a GIRLBOSS badass, the perfect mix of girly and tomboy. She does amazing work for many top restaurants in Charlotte.
