Childress Klein and Duke Energy are moving forward with the newest tower set to grace the Charlotte skyline.

Named “Charlotte Metro Tower,” this 1,000,000-square-foot, 40-story office tower will occupy the parking lot across Tryon from Duke Energy Center, next to the Gantt Center.

Timing: Plans call for ground breaking to occur within the next few months and Duke expects to move into the building in 2022.

Details: There will be a lobby facing Tryon Street and around 25,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space facing Tryon and College. Given the size of the property, we love this amount of ground floor retail and it will continue to fuel South Tryon’s rise in that section of Uptown. The building itself will house up to 4,000 Duke Energy employees and contractors once complete.

Parking: There will be a 7-floor, 1,000 space parking deck on the College Street side, but thankfully there will be additional retail space surrounding this. The parking deck is well masked and there seems to be major care taken into having a massive deck not be an eye sore.

Why it matters: With a modern architectural design, thoughtful approach to both parking and ground floor retail, the Charlotte Metro Tower is a strong addition to our city’s booming skyline.

We’re loving the angled top that appears to have solar panels (would be fitting for the tenant)
