Lorna Ebert launched Sensational Sleepovers in September with the idea of helping Charlotte parents throw beautiful birthday parties at home where their kids can be kids. She’s designed stylish, small tents that people can rent for chic campground-style sleepovers.
Ebert is originally from Ireland and her husband is from Germany, and she said they both grew up having birthday celebrations exclusively at home.
“It’s always forced me to come up with ideas for my kids for having a party, for having a fun party at home,” Ebert said. “My feeling is it preserves their innocence a little longer – at a sleepover, you’re bonding with your friends, using your imagination.”
And Ebert thought Charlotte would be the perfect market for this sort of venture.
“Charlotte is a big banking city,” Ebert said. “There are families with disposable income that can, and will, splurge for a party.”
Four tents will cost you $280 and each additional tent is $65. For large orders, Ebert offers a discount.
The package includes the tent, a mattress, sheets, decorative pillows, trays, lanterns, blankets, rugs and accessories. Ebert has some themes already in stock – Bear Hugs, Glamour Girls, A Night in Paris, Touch Down and Game on – but she can also create custom themes for an extra cost. You can also add a balloon package or rent smaller tents for your kids’ dolls and toys.
Or you can go all out and add a photoshoot and pink carpet with Sensational Sleepovers’ backdrop to the mix.
Though the business is still new, Ebert is already looking to expand. Her next ideas? Carefully curated sleepover party packages for adults (think bachelorette party or girls night).
