When my favorite Vietnamese spot closed (R.I.P. iPho, please come back), I thought nothing would be worthy of filling its space. Alas, a few short weeks later, and Montford Park broke the news that Groucho’s would be opening in that very spot.

SCORE.

Groucho’s hopes to open within the next few months.

If you know, you know. But if you don’t, it’s pretty simple.

Groucho’s opened in Columbia, South Carolina in 1941 and serves cold and hot deli sandwiches, salads piled high with cheese and meats and a delicious dipping sauce called Formula 45 (think Thousand Island/Russian-ish).

Most popular items?

The STP Dipper (roast beef and turkey in a sub roll, topped with melted Swiss cheese and bacon bits) or Apollo Dipper (ham and turkey in a sub roll topped with melted Swiss, or try it All Turkey.)

STP Dipper (roast beef, turkey, swiss cheese, bacon crumbs on sub roll with Formula 45 or Danish Bleu)

Reuben (pastrami, melted Muenster, heated sauerkraut, German mustard on Jewish rye bread)

Tuna Cheese Melt Club (tuna salad, melted Colby Jack and Cheddar, sliced tomato, green leaf lettuce)

And if I’m really feeling crazy, I’ll grab a Dr. Brown’s Cream Soda and pour it over their perfectly crushed ice.

Yes, there are Groucho’s locations nearby (Rock Hill and Indian Land) and some time ago, a location existed Uptown, but all that matters now is one is opening in my ‘hood and I can’t wait.
