A blogger and fashion lifestyle influencer with a love for natural light and bright colors gave the Agenda a peek inside her Instagram-ready Uptown apartment. Here’s a look at her favorite pieces, top spots to shop, and how she constantly keeps the look fresh for social media.

The Renter

Who: McKenna Bleu, 33

Job: Fashion lifestyle influencer with more than 268K Instagram followers.

Her story: When Bleu, a Charlotte native who had been living in San Diego, returned home last year, she was looking for an apartment with a lot of light. “It’s multi-purpose,” says Bleu, who often photographs herself and items in her home. “I love clean, white, bright spaces. But I also needed light because I’m creating a lot of content in my home.” When she saw this apartment with its 10-foot ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows featuring skyline views, she decided it was the perfect fit.

Apartment Breakdown

The space: The one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment at the edge of Uptown features dark hardwood floors, white walls, built-in shelves, a small balcony, and a modern kitchen with white cabinets and black tile.

The vibe: “My space is very boho gypsy,” says Bleu, who says her home is also her office. “It’s colorful, but clean and simple with no clutter. It’s hard to focus on work when your space is unorganized.”

Global influence: “I’ve been fortunate to travel to 28 countries,” says Bleu, who has travel books scattered around her apartment and a rug from a trip to Morocco on her balcony. “I just got back from a trip to Bali and Thailand. It was so much fun to grab a few textiles while I was there, and to find inspiration on the color side.”

Going green: “I put a ton of greenery in here to bring the outside in,” says Bleu. “I call myself a crazy plant lady. I love going to the nursery. And all my plants have names that start with P. Penny is my main squeeze. She’s my fig fiddle.”

Tuned in: “I’m super into music,” says Bleu. “I have a whole wall my brother helped me create with my albums and my record player. It’s my favorite corner in my space. I wake up in the morning, grab a cup of coffee, and put a record on.”

Stylish scent: “I’m obsessed with candles,” says Bleu. “I have them burning at all days and times. Anthropologie‘s Volcano is my absolute favorite.”

Shops and Inspiration

Mix it up: As a blogger and influencer, Bleu partners with a variety of home decor brands, such as World Market, that often provide her with their items, which means she frequently has new pieces in her home. “I change it every few months, whether it’s a new rug or throw pillows or changing up my pictures,” says Bleu, who says her storage unit is packed full of items she often cycles back through.

Pull it together: While the smaller pieces may alternate, Bleu says that many of her neutral pieces to pull the space together are from Home Goods. “I’m a big Home Goods fan,” says Bleu, who visits the store at least once a week. “I go to the one in Huntersville off exit 25. My bleach washed jute rug in my living room was under $200. It’s a nice, neutral, textured rug that would work great in any space.”

Make a statement: The apartment’s centerpiece is its hot pink couch (approximately $1,100) from Joybird, a company that creates custom upholstered furniture. “You pick out the style and fabric, and they create it for you,” says Bleu. “It was so much fun working with them.”

Sign design: “I love Anders Ruff workshops where you can create your own signs,” says Bleu. “Above my stove I have a big sign from a workshop that says ‘Stay Wild.’ You see it in the background of every selfie pic in my mirror. It’s one of my favorite things in my home.”
