A graphic designer with an eye for color and clean lines, shares with us her stylish home, favorite finds, and top feeds to follow for design inspiration.
Who: Erin Stump, 33
Job: She’s a freelance graphic designer whose sophisticated design taste is reflected in her home. “I love color and I’m such a visual person,” says Stump. “I love being surrounded by beauty.”
The home: A 900 sq. ft, one-bedroom condo on Selwyn Avenue in Myers Park.
When native Charlottean Erin Stump returned to her hometown after a stint in Chicago, she wanted a home in the neighborhood where she’d grown up.
And while it was her condo’s location—in the familiar Myers Park neighborhood and across the road from Selwyn Pub—that first caught her attention, it was its bright interior and 12-foot ceilings that ultimately won her over.
Rent or own: Stump bought the condo eight years ago when she moved back to her hometown of Charlotte from Chicago. “I grew up in this area and I was at an age when being across the street from Selwyn Pub felt important,” says Stump. “The building was brand new. It seemed like the perfect fit.”
Best feature: The fourth-floor condo has 12-foot-high ceilings with tall windows that face west over the treetops of Myers Park. “I have the best sunsets,” says Stump.
Fun fact: She nicknamed the two swivel chairs by her television Mary Kate and Ashley. “They’re by CR Laine and I got them on major clearance,” she says. “Shelby [my dog] perches on Ashley, so Ashley often gets covered with a blanket.”
Home accent she’s current loving: “Succulents in little bowls.”
Shopping and inspiration
Favorite shops: “I find probably 70 percent of my furniture online,” says Stump. “I’m a sucker for deals and I love the hunt, so I rarely pay full price. I love Furnitureland South and Houzz, but I also like Anthropologie and even HomeGoods.”
Source for inspiration: “I grew up around beautiful interiors,” says Stump. “My mom had a knack for it.” Today, Stump’s condo is filled with design-focused coffee table books, and she subscribes to Elle Decor and Traditional Home magazines. “I also follow what feels like hundreds of interior designers on social media,” she says, siting Collins Interiors and Jenkins Interiors as two favorites on Instagram.
Decorating goals: Stump works from home and enjoys being in an attractive setting during her workday. But she also likes entertaining in her home. “I want people to walk in and think ‘Wow, this looks like a professional designer,’ even though it’s all me,” she says. “Really though, creating a beautiful interior is just one of my favorite hobbies.”
