Charlotte has something of a reputation as a corporate town. We’re blessed to have nearly 300 of the Fortune 500 companies with presences in the area.
But in Charlotte and across the state, it’s small businesses that are making up a huge chunk of the job growth.
Nearly 9 out of 10 businesses in North Carolina have fewer than 20 employees. Mecklenburg County has approximately 36,000 businesses. You do the math.
And enthusiasm for small business locally has never been higher.
Small Business Saturday has become a fixture in South End, the 7th Street Public Market is jam-packed all week, and people all across the city have come to love shopping local.
We at the Agenda want to recognize one of our city’s impressive small business owners. Consideration will be given to the business’s growth, innovation and culture.
What’s a small business? For the purposes of these awards, we’ll consider companies with fewer than 25 full-time employees and less than $10 million in revenue.
Please submit your nominations to firstname.lastname@example.org using the subject line “Small Businessperson of the Year nomination.” The deadline is March 2.
