Two new luxury Uptown hotels — the Grand Bohemian and Carolina Theater hotel — are set to begin construction by the end of the year.
Both will have a major impact on the skyline, as well as our city’s urban density and status.
First up is the Grand Bohemian, to be located at Church Street and Trade. This hotel will have 254 rooms, an art gallery, a courtyard with an outdoor bar, a restaurant and a bistro. Tons going on here to enhance the ground floor and the cherry on top is that the building will be gorgeous.
Construction is set to begin December 18 with the right lane of Church Street (between Trade and 4th) set to close until October 14, 2019. Quite a long time, but this project is worth every second.
Then comes the Intercontinental Hotel at Belk Place/Carolina Theatre. Remember the Carolina Theatre renovation? The long-discussed plan to renovate the existing theater at 6th and Tryon and build a hotel on top?
Well, that is finally ready to get going with both the renovation and the construction of the 300-room hotel on top. If there is no value engineering here, this is also going to be a beautiful building with some very unique architecture to the Queen City.
Construction is beginning here December 11 with the closure of the left lane of 6th Street between College and Tryon until October 1, 2019.
So it seems come October 2019, Charlotte will have two fantastic new hotels calling Uptown home.
We will bring you more details on both projects as they get underway.
