Wedged between the neighborhoods of Eastover, Elizabeth, Commonwealth Park and Plaza Midwood, Chantilly enjoys a reputation for being one part luxury, one part artsy.

Once a working and middle class neighborhood of small bungalows, the many of homes have doubled and tripled in size in recent years, with renovations – some total teardowns – typically aiming to maintain the spirit of the neighborhood’s original Craftsman charm.

With big renovations, of course, comes big price tags, making it one of the many Charlotte neighborhoods becoming unrecognizable people who “knew it when.” Think plenty of larger houses for budgets $600,000 and up; $465,000 for 1,437 sq. ft.; $325,000 for a house marketed as a potential teardown.

Is Chantilly too hot or slowing down? Some homes have had recent price drops. But at the same time, Chantilly’s most expensive home under contract, on Kingsbury Drive, just went for $815,000. It was brand-new construction on the lot of a former small cottage.

With sidewalks and its own park, Chantilly attracts a lot of families who want to be close to uptown. Here’s a sampling of what’s on the market.
