So many Uptown buildings are uninviting on the ground floor. Finally, though, we’re in the middle of a renaissance of correcting these mistakes of the past.

Bank of America Plaza, 400 South Tryon’s parking deck, Charlotte Plaza and the Omni Hotel are all getting makeovers to modernize the property and make it more pedestrian-friendly.

First Citizens Plaza is next up, and it is certainly an improvement over the way it is now.

Adam Williams is marketing around 7,000 square feet of retail space in the building that seems to be made up of two spots: One completely internal space that is ideal for a coffee shop and one massive restaurant space that will have direct Tryon frontage.

The restaurant frontage on Tryon is pretty nice and, as stated, is certainly an improvement over what it is now. It looks tacked on and it kind of is, but having a great tenant will only increase the great options along Tryon.

Permitting is underway for this makeover and I would expect to see the shell space delivered sometime next year.
