Director of Alumni Relations

Overview:
The Director of Alumni Relations will design and implement a comprehensive and vital alumni program that meaningfully engages alumni in the mission of Charlotte Country Day School and cultivates them to invest in the school’s strategic priorities as determined by the Board of Trustees. Along with the Alumni Council, an advisory group of alumni volunteer leaders, the Alumni Director will promote the alumni voice and foster strategic dialogue between alumni and other key school constituents with the intent of sustaining all aspects of Country Day for the long term. The Alumni Director reports to the Director of Advancement, who in turn reports to the Head of School.

Responsibilities:
• Engage alumni to seek their input about what they want and need out of their alumni program.
• Recruit, train and manage volunteers to serve as volunteer leaders within the alumni program, including the Alumni Council and Class Reunion Committees.
• Work with the Director of the Country Day Fund to recruit, train and manage volunteers on the Country Day Fund Alumni Committee.
• Create, plan, promote and conduct opportunities for Country Day alumni, parents of alumni, retired faculty/staff, and friends to meaningfully experience the current life of the school through activities and events.
• Collaborate with key faculty/staff leaders to create, plan, promote and conduct opportunities for Country Day students to interact with alumni and learn about our alumni program.
• Plan and orchestrate a full-scale reunion program and related fundraising effort, connecting alumni to the school’s mission.
• Design alumni events in key Country Day markets around the country.
• Collaborate with the marketing-communications staff to develop messaging and content for and produce strategic communications and marketing materials by which Country Day promotes its alumni program and highlights our alumni and their achievements. This includes print and electronic publications, like Perspectives magazine, the alumni section of the school’s Web site, BucsConnect (a proprietary online community), alumni e-newsletter and other e-mails, as well as updating and managing applicable social media profiles.
• Speak publicly to promote alumni activities and projects.
• Work with Advancement Services staff to maintain and update alumni data, including personal, family, and professional information.
• Develop individual affinity-based programs to enhance the relationship between specific segments of the alumni body and the school.
• Manage relationships with major alumni fundraising prospects and solicit gifts of all kinds, including Country Day Fund, capital and endowment and deferred gifts.
• Partner with Trustees, administrators and faculty/staff in all divisions to collaboratively shape the alumni program in ways that support and promote the mission and values of Country Day.

Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
• 3-5 years of experience in fundraising, event management and/or marketing-communications.
• Working knowledge and ease with Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram.
• Exceptional organizational and written and oral communication skills.
• Creative and strategic, while keenly tactical.
• Collaborative and a team player.
• Deadline-driven.
• Ability to demonstrate flexibility, tact, confidentiality, and a strong instinct for protocol and etiquette.
• Community builder.
• Willingness to work evenings and weekends on occasion, as well as limited domestic travel.
