Cat lovers, rejoice. Two cat cafes are currently in the works in Charlotte.
Across town in Optimist Park, Mac Tabby, located in an eclectic small business hub known as Area 15, will open November 11.
Here’s how it works…
Mac Tabby features two separate spaces — a cafe for check-ins and drink orders and a dedicated cat lounge next door.
Drinks include coffee from Pure Intentions and, appropriately, Smelly Cat, as well as wine and beer.
Visitors can then pay by the hour to access the cat lounge, which will be home to up to 11 adoptable cats courtesy of Catering to Cats and Dogs, a local rescue organization.
What exactly do you do in a cat lounge?
Hang out with cats, duh. Mac Tabby owner Lori Konawalik says they’ll keep the cat to human ratio equivalent to ensure the cats don’t get overwhelmed and the humans get quality cat time.
You can use the space like you would any cafe — to read, work or just hang out. Mac Tabby also plans to host special events in the cat lounge, like cat yoga, cat story time and live music.
Mac Tabby is currently in its space and last week launched at Kickstarter campaign to raise startup funds ahead of opening.
Mac Tabby’s Kickstarter giving levels and gifts range from $5 for a thank you sticker to $1,000 for four yearly cat lounge passes and your name emblazoned on the cat lounge mural.
