Let’s be real, it is finally the right temp in the Carolinas for actually enjoying your outdoor patio or pool space. We’re all about squeezing every last drop of (more pleasant) summer, so we turned to Charlotte event designer extraordinaire Katrina Hutchins of Katrina Hutchins Events for words of wisdom on throwing those end-of-the-season soirees.

The always-gracious hostess let us peek into her own gorgeous Dilworth home as she styled a poolside happy hour inspired by the refreshing flavor of Stella Artois.

The must-try? A watermelon beer-rita that is so festive and refreshing you won’t believe how few steps it has. Read on and get thirsty.

Try this at home: Watermelon Beer-rita

Ingredients:
1 cup of watermelon (blend and puree)
1 shot of tequila per drink
1 Stella Artois
Ice
Sugar for the rim
Lime

Directions:
(1) Use the lime to wet the rim of a glass, dip rim in sugar.
(2) Blend watermelon in to a puree. Pour on the bottom of the glass.
(3) Add shot of tequila
(4) Fill remainder of the glass with beer (add ice if desired)
(5) Enjoy!

Entertain like a pro – Katrina’s top 3 tips

(1) Choose decor that fits the setting.

“For my pool, I kept it tropical with palm printed linens, a natural looking chandelier and dressed it up with some gold accents. Let the outdoors speak for themselves and don’t overdo it. I love working with lots of different textures so I brought in a shagreen tray to serve on.”

(2) Don’t serve heavy or hot foods.

“A watermelon caprese salad and tuna poke are perfect options to cool you down in this heat.”

(3) Cold drinks are key, and mix up your selection.

“They don’t need to be too complicated. Use your favorite beer to make a fun cocktail like a Watermelon Beer-rita!”

Say ‘so long’ to summer the right way.
